Ace of Winds

cunning · the king of birds · cleverness · new ideas

Upright

The wren is the smallest bird and the cleverest — it won the title of king by riding on the eagle's back, then flying higher when the eagle tired. A new idea has come to you, and it may seem small, but it is sharp and cunning and full of possibility. Do not underestimate it.

Reversed

Cleverness without courage is just trickery. You may be relying on wit when what is needed is honest effort, or your new idea is clever but not wise. The wren won the contest, but it also had to outrun every other bird afterward. Think it through.

Irish lore

The wren (Dreoilín) is the king of all birds in Irish tradition. On St. Stephen's Day, the Wren Boys would hunt the wren and carry it from house to house, singing for coins. The wren's cleverness in outwitting the eagle made it a symbol of cunning triumphing over brute strength.
