Eight of Branches

challenge · balance · defence · sharp clarity

Upright

Holly is sharp and green even in the darkest winter. You are being tested, and the challenge is real — but so is your capacity to meet it. Keep your edges sharp and your centre balanced. This is not the time for softness; it is the time for clear, bright readiness.

Reversed

Your defences are up so high that nothing can get through — not even help. Holly protects, but it also prickles those who come too close. Are you defending yourself, or pushing everyone away? Balance your thorns with your green.

Irish lore

Holly (Tinne) rules the dark half of the year in Celtic tradition, evergreen when all else has fallen. Holly wood was used for chariot shafts and spear handles. In the battle of the Oak King and Holly King, holly reigns from midsummer to midwinter — the warrior tree of the waning year.
