The ash tree connects the three worlds — roots in the deep, trunk in the living, crown in the sky. You are in the midst of a transformation that touches every part of you. It is not comfortable, but it is connecting you to something larger than yourself.
Reversed
The struggle feels pointless, or the transformation you are undergoing has stalled. Perhaps you are resisting the very change that would free you. Ash asks you to reach both down and up — you cannot grow in only one direction.
Irish lore
Ash (Nion) was one of the five sacred trees of Ireland and was believed to connect the three realms. Ash wood was used for hurleys and spear shafts — strong, springy, and reliable. The great ash of Uisneach was said to shelter all of Ireland beneath its branches.
