Five of Winds

grace · the wild hunt · flight · the call of the wild

Upright

The red deer runs not from fear but from the sheer joy of its own speed. Something wild is calling to you — the hunt, the chase, the exhilaration of pursuit. Follow it, but know that the wild hunt changes everyone who joins it. You may return a different person.

Reversed

The chase has become frantic, or you are the one being hunted. Grace under pressure requires knowing when to run and when to stand. If the wild hunt is running you ragged, perhaps it is time to step off the path and let it thunder past.

Irish lore

The red deer (Fia Rua) was one of Ireland's most ancient and noble animals. The wild hunt — the fairy cavalcade that rode through the night — often pursued a white deer. Fionn's mother Muirne was turned into a deer by a druid, and Oisín ("little deer") was born in the wild.
