Fledgling of Winds

first flight · eagerness · youthful energy · risk

Upright

The fledgling stands at the edge of the nest, wings trembling with excitement and terror. This is your first flight, or a new venture that feels like one. You are not yet graceful, not yet sure — but you are ready. Jump. The air will catch you. And if it does not, you will learn to fall well.

Reversed

You are either still in the nest when you should have flown, or you leapt before your feathers were grown. Neither is fatal, but both need attention. If you are grounded, find your courage. If you fell, mend your wings and try again.

Irish lore

In Irish tradition, a bird's first flight was considered an omen. The direction it flew, the height it reached, and whether it returned to the nest all carried meaning. The fledgling represents the terrifying, exhilarating moment between safety and freedom.
