wisdom · knowledge · ancient understanding · patience rewarded
Upright
The salmon has eaten the hazelnuts of wisdom, and now it carries all the knowledge of the world in its silver flesh. What you have been learning is coming together. The disparate threads are weaving into understanding. Trust the process — the salmon did not become wise overnight.
Reversed
Knowledge without application is wasted, or you are hoarding what you know instead of sharing it. The Salmon of Knowledge was meant to be eaten — wisdom is meant to be passed on. What good is all that understanding if it stays locked inside you?
Irish lore
The Salmon of Knowledge (Bradán Feasa) ate the nine hazelnuts that fell into the Well of Wisdom and gained all the world's knowledge. Fionn mac Cumhaill accidentally tasted its flesh and received the gift of imbas — divine inspiration and foresight that served him all his life.
