Irish lore
Skellig Michael (Sceilg Mhichíl) is a jagged rock eight miles off the Kerry coast, where monks built beehive huts and lived in extreme devotion from the 6th century. They climbed 600 stone steps above the Atlantic to pray. It is one of the most remote and awe-inspiring monastic sites in the world.
