cleansing · the fairy tree · boundary · sacred space
Upright
Hawthorn marks the boundary between the safe and the wild, the known and the Otherworld. You are being invited to cleanse — your space, your habits, your heart. Make room for what is coming by releasing what no longer serves. But be gentle at the threshold.
Reversed
You may be crossing boundaries you should respect, or refusing to cross one that would set you free. The fairy tree demands respect — neither worship nor dismissal, but honest acknowledgment of what lies beyond the hedge.
Irish lore
Hawthorn (Huath) is the fairy tree of Ireland, and cutting one down brings terrible luck. Lone hawthorns in fields mark fairy paths and are left standing even by the most practical farmers. May blossom was never brought indoors, for it belonged to the Good People.
