sanctuary · preservation · learning · safe harbour
Upright
The round tower was where the monks carried the books when the raiders came — a place of last resort that preserved what mattered most. You are being called to protect something precious. Guard your resources, your energy, your sacred things. Not everything needs to be shared; some things need to be saved.
Reversed
You may be hoarding when you should be sharing, or locking yourself in the tower when the danger has passed. Sanctuary is temporary — it preserves things so they can be brought back into the world. Do not let your refuge become your prison.
Irish lore
Ireland's round towers were built by monastic communities as bell towers, refuges, and strongholds. When Viking raiders came, the monks would carry their manuscripts and treasures up the tower, pulling the ladder in behind them. These towers preserved the written heritage of Europe through centuries of chaos.
