Upright
The salmon pool is still and dark, and the knowledge you seek lies deep beneath the surface. You cannot rush this. The Salmon of Knowledge did not give up its secrets to the hasty — it waited for the one who was patient enough to catch it and wise enough to taste its flesh.
Reversed
You have been sitting by the pool too long, or you caught the fish but have not yet eaten. Knowledge held but not integrated is just information. Take what you have learned and let it change you.
Irish lore
The Salmon of Knowledge swam in a pool beneath the nine hazel trees, eating the nuts of wisdom as they fell. Fionn mac Cumhaill caught the salmon for the druid Finnegas, but burned his thumb on the cooking fish and tasted it first — gaining all the world's knowledge in a single accidental moment.
