Irish lore
Apple (Quert) was the tree of the Otherworld. The silver branch with crystal apple blossoms was a passport to Emhain Abhlach, the paradise of apple trees. Manannán gave such a branch to Cormac mac Airt, and its music could ease any sorrow.
