Ten of Winds

sovereignty · endurance · the race · justice demanded

Upright

Macha ran her race pregnant and cursed the men of Ulster for their cruelty. The horse carries sovereignty in its stride, and sometimes that stride demands justice. You have the strength and the right to claim what is yours, even if it costs you. Run your race. Let them see what you can do.

Reversed

The race has exhausted you, or you are demanding too much of yourself to prove a point. Macha won her race and delivered her curse, but the cost was terrible. Victory through suffering is still suffering. Choose your battles, and rest between them.

Irish lore

Macha, one of the triple war goddesses, was forced by the king of Ulster to race his horses while pregnant. She won, then cursed the men of Ulster with the pangs of childbirth in their hour of greatest need. The horse (Capall) in Irish tradition represents sovereignty, and sovereignty always demands a reckoning.
