The Storm

upheaval · sudden change · lightning · revelation · breaking open

Upright

The lightning has struck, and what was built on shaky ground is coming down. This is not gentle, but it is honest. Let the storm do its work — what remains standing afterward is what was real all along.

Reversed

The storm is passing, or you are bracing for one that may not come. Either way, the fear of destruction can be worse than the thing itself. Breathe. Not every dark cloud carries lightning, and even lightning clears the air.

Irish lore

The Irish landscape bears the memory of storms in every stone wall and bent tree. In tradition, sudden storms were sometimes attributed to the fury of the sídhe or the displeasure of the gods. The round towers of early Christian Ireland served partly as refuges from the storm — both literal and metaphorical.
