The Sun

joy · vitality · celebration · midsummer · clarity

Upright

The sun is out, and everything it touches is warm and clear and good. This is a time to celebrate, to be seen, to let your joy be uncomplicated for once. You have earned this light — stop looking for shadows in it and simply bask.

Reversed

The light feels too bright, or you are struggling to feel the warmth even though the sun is shining. Joy can be frightening when you are not used to it. Let yourself be happy, a stór — it is not a trap, and it will not be taken from you for enjoying it.

Irish lore

Lúnasa, the festival of Lugh, marked the beginning of harvest in August. Bonfires were lit on hilltops, games were played, and the first fruits were offered in gratitude. Lugh was a sun god in all but name — radiant, skilled, victorious — and his festival was the great celebration of the year's abundance.
