Three of Wells

forbidden knowledge · sacrifice for wisdom · daring · consequences

Upright

Boann approached the forbidden well despite every warning, and the waters rose and became the River Boyne. Some knowledge demands that you break the rules to reach it. Be prepared: wisdom gained this way always changes you, and the river that flows from your daring will carve its own path.

Reversed

You may be seeking knowledge you are not ready for, or ignoring the cost of what you wish to know. Boann lost much in her pursuit. Ask yourself: is the wisdom worth the flood? And are you prepared to swim?

Irish lore

Boann, goddess of the River Boyne, approached the Well of Segais — forbidden to all — and walked around it against the sun. The waters rose in fury, pursuing her and becoming the River Boyne. Her sacrifice gave Ireland one of its greatest rivers and a landscape of sacred sites.
